Programmers and IT specialists from Plovdiv and Stara Zagora have created an app for doctors and patients with diabetes. The aim is to make the connection between the patient and doctor easier.
Developing it was assigned to our specialists by an American professor who is author of the idea.
Through the mobile application, the patient has the ability to share daily blood sugar levels, medication, how they feel, and many other parameters analyzed by the system. Than the data is sent to the treating doctor or specialist. He, in turn, evaluates the recommendations given to him by the application and returns the patient's directions for future treatment.
The app is already working in the US and is giving results. Tests show that per one year usage of the developed system, treatment complications have fallen between 10% and 40%. Scientific research saves a lot of time and nearly $ 800 per patient.
The idea of the specialists and programmers from the Department of Computer Systems and Technologies at the Technical University of Plovdiv is to help each other with physicians and doctors in the processing of data. A member of the team working on the application development explains:
On one hand, we know how to collect and store data and process it, on the other hand they know what that data means.
Donka Nesheva was also part of the team, a PhD student at the Technical University of Plovdiv, who shared her hopes for the use of the application in our country:
Together, we developed the application that is already available to patients in the United States and I hope it will be soon available in Bulgaria as well.
